Intro to Nose Work

Nose Work is easily the hottest new sport around, and it’s easy to see why!

It’s fun for humans, dogs love to participate, and it’s good for building confidence and focus in dogs that have issues like shyness, reactivity, aggression, or a simple lack of confidence.

Dog sniffing

This is a 4-week course where you and your dog will learn the basics of nose work by:

  • teaching your dog to find a specific scent among boxes and objects
  • learning your dog’s body language when he finds a scent
  • stimulating your dog’s natural ability to search with his nose

This sport is great for any breed in that it builds confidence in your dog and is a good way for them to burn off extra mental and physical energy.

It’s a class you won’t want to miss !

Speaking of NOSES – Did you know dogs …

  • Wiggle each nostril independently
  • Breathe in through the holes in the front of the nose and exhale through the side slits and discern individual odors making up what we could call a “scent.”
  • Humans have about 5 million cells devoted to smelling; dogs have up to 220 million.
  • Not only that, but dogs have four times the brain power devoted to processing scents!
  • We smell “vegetable soup,” but a dog smells each individual ingredient.

Dogs’ noses are so powerful they can detect one tablespoon of sugar in the amount of water it would take to fill two Olympic-sized swimming pools!
